Jollibee NYC Location
When it opened in the end of 2018, the lines were a block long again similar to when the Queens chain opened. Rain, shine or snow - there was a line. But unlike the opening of the Queens branch, the lines for the Manhattan branch of Jollibee only lasted for one month. So I finally had the audacity to try this branch. If you want to find out my previous story of the Queens version vs. Philippines, click here: http://paulinespalate.blogspot.com/2014/01/jollibee-nyc-vs-pinas.html.
I read their menu and to my dismay, their food options were limited to mainly fried chicken, peach mango pie, spaghetti, and family meals. Where is the burgersteak meal or palabok? Obviously, this branch caters to a more American taste. I ordered the cheapest item combo in the menu, a 2-piece chickenjoy meal and a mango peach pie. For about $7.50, the meal comes with a drumstick, thigh, a side of white rice, gravy and a drink (I opted for the Pineapple Quencher). The place was jammed pack and I peaked through the back to find no seats. So I changed my order to go and consumed my meal in the open space of Bryant Park.

The gravy is salty as usual, but to my surprise the chicken was done right. It was not salty and the cover was pretty crispy. They definitely gave a heap of rice I think to fill the box. I left much of the crispy skin and a 1/4 of rice. I barely dipped my chicken in the gravy as well. Couldn't they offer other sauces than gravy? But that would take out their uniqueness, won't it. The Pineapple Quencher - well it tasted like canned pineapple juice with no sugar and added more water. I took a few sips and down the garbage unfortunately.
To my surprise they only offer the Mango Peach Pie. It wasn't hot as it says in the box. It had a crispy outer layer and an interesting inner filling that is technically made of mango and peaches. It tasted like a commercialize pie filling. Overall, I gave this branch of Jollibee a B-. It's ok if you missed the line or did not catch on the hype. I'll go back to the Queens branch instead.
