Jersey Shore - Beach Getaway
You have seen the photos on fb. Longing for sitting by the sand or lying in a hammock tied to two palm trees, I decided to go for a beach vacation for some R&R. With a tight budget, Miami or out-of the country islands were crossed off the list. I settled for Asbury Park/Ocean Grove, NJ. With proper research, I stayed at Ocean View Inn in Ocean Grove.
My hotel was located in the middle of a long park, lined with Victorian houses. I may have the older house, but the decor was quite pleasant, with a Caribbean/African flair. I stayed at a small cozy room with a discounted price. The breakfast was continental, which included hard boiled eggs, cereal, muffins (i think they are from Costco or BJs, tea/coffee), toast, bagels, oatmeal on their 2nd floor balcony overlooking a majestic sea and this park.
At check-in, the first thing the lady said was Ocean Grove is for the quiet life with the old folks, while Asbury Park is for the youngins. So I decided to check out both towns - I did A LOT of walking. Everything happens on Main Street at Ocean Grove with your small quaint shops, restaurants, and vintage bike rentals. For a good price and comfort food, I highly recommend Nagle's Restaurant. It is a popular eatery among families, but I discovered a line of people like for a rock concert, wrapped around this corner shop for their ice cream. Thank God (maybe) I was in my weight loss challenge and I didn't have to be in that line. Ocean Grove is known for Christian concerts - at the Great Auditorium and at the Boardwalk Pavilion. Upcoming invites: Michael W. Smith, Kirk Cameron, Ravi Zacharias. See their events calendar.
The beach was freezing! It was high 70's. Why is it cold? More so, this park is a wind tunnel, but it's a nice stroll in the afternoons. I did taste the sand & the seawater. Daily beach passes are sold for $7 (we get 50% discount from the hotel) and you can rent a beach chair, umbrella or boogie board for the day. High winds, sun, and the surf - it didn't stop beach goers. Sandcastle is my next challenge.
