Breakfast Around the World: Chinese

In this season, I am featuring Breakfasts around the World. I will be trying different kinds of breakfasts, whether traveling or in my hometown New York City (home to a multitude of different cultures and immigrants).

This first series features a Chinese breakfast from NYC's Chinatown. The Chinatown located in Manhattan is one of the largest and oldest Chinese immigrant neighborhood in the city. More than 50% of the population speak Chinese (Mandarin and Cantonese) and is home to inexpensive, but good Chinese food from various regions (ex. Sichuan, Hunan, Cantonese, South China, etc.) , along with Vietnamese, Thai and Malaysian.
A typical Chinese breakfast consists of salted egg (hard boiled egg marinated in soy sauce), congee (rice porridge), a variety of different rice dishes. Pictured here are salted egg, congee and rice crepe.
