Walking in the Dust or Fly like a Butterfly

After a day of working, my traveling group decided to walk around the dusty and rocky roads of Delmas. The main and some roads are paved, while others is a rocky hike. I sometimes look for street names but sometimes could find none. So after walking for a few minutes, we arrived at a nice cafe called Papillion.

Papillon has several references. It can refer to a dog - Continental Toy Spaniel with butterfly looking ears; or the autobiography of Henri Charriere where the title refers to the butterfly tatoo inscribed on his chest; or the 1973 film. The word is derived from the French word to mean butterfly. This café identify themselves as the butterflies for Haiti. Papillion Enterprises, is an orphan prevention initiative by creating jobs for Haitian Artisans. They provide training and an opportunity for the locals to create jewelry and other items. On the first floor of this establishment is their store that sells beaded jewelry and other items. On the second floor, is a thatched roof café serving ice cream, drinks, sandwiches and French fries.

With a nice breeze, a view of the mountains and background island music, the customers are a mixed of locals and foreigners just hanging out, checking emails or working. It's worthwhile to check it out.
